IVGID has put the beach issue on the back burner for over 2 years. It was back on the agenda for the September 7 meeting, but conveniently the Board ran out of time.
Jane Bekowich has proposed an interesting solution that deserves consideration in a public forum. I know others have suggestions, and many capable citizens would be willing to give their time and expertise to hammering out a viable solution. I have proposed forming a Citizens Advisory Committee to work on this effort, i.e., a public body with members chosen by the Board, not staff. This is a public issue of great concern to our community and should be addressed in a public meeting, complete with notices, formal agenda, minutes, etc. It’s time that our Board take charge.
Ordinance 7 is back on the agenda for an October workshop. IVGID should not be making the decisions regarding beach access. Property owners are the only ones who should have a say.
